Southwest Submission Open

Rules and Regulations


Time Limits:
 
·    All Children's divisions will be 4 minutes
·    Adult Novice and Beginner division will be 5 minutes.
·    Adult Advanced division will be 6 minute.


All Takedown tournament matches will be 2 x 2 minute rounds.



Point Scoring:
 
·    Takedown 1 points
·    Passing the guard 3 points
·    Back control with hooks 4 points
·    Front mount with hooks 4 points
·    Sweep (from neutral position to dominant) 2 points

 
Rules:
 
·    All matches begin with both competitors standing.
·    Any legal submission instantly wins the match.
·    If no submission is achieved, the competitor with the most points when time expires wins the match.
·    Only Rash guards are allowed to be worn in Men's No-GI divisions. However, if the competitor chooses he may go shirtless.  NO T-Shirts.
 
·    The Referee may stop the match and declare a winner if a competitor is in a submission that the referee feels an injury may ensue by the competitor not tapping out.
·    If out of bounds, the Referee will restart the match in a NEUTRAL position:  Either standing or in the guard top or bottom position. It is the competitors responsibility to keep the match in bounds.
·    If a submission is being applied and the competitors accidentally go out of bounds the match will be restarted in either top or bottom guard.  The competitor with the submission applied gets the choice of top or bottom.
·    If a competitor flees the mat while in a submission to escape they will immediately be Disqualified. The referee will use their discretion as to whether it is intentional or not.
 
·    The tournament producers reserve the right to combine any division with less than 3 competitors.


 
Legal Techniques:
 
·    Arm locks/Arm bars
·    Wrist locks
·    Chokes
 
·    Straight ankle locks
·    Figure four ankle locks (Adult only)
 
·    Kneebars (Adult only)

 
Illegal Techniques:
 
·     Heel Hooks  (Except Advanced Divisions)
·     Knee Twisting
·     Finger Twisting
·     Hair Pulling
·     Eye Gouging
·     Strikes
·     Body Slams from the Guard


Takedown Tournament Rules:

All takedowns are worth one point.
Takedowns will be scored based on collegiate/folkstyle style rules.
A takedown must have control before a point is awarded.
After a takedown is awarded both competitors will be stood up and restarted.
